Fast Build-Time

Building an airplane is a project that someone can not only develop a great deal of pride, but also a measure of personal accomplishment. There are many excellent homebuilt aircraft available to the builder at this time. Some take a fair amount of time to build and others a lot more. Some enjoy all the work required to build some of these aircraft, while others want an airplane finished so they can go on flying. Some of these people simply do not have spare time to build an airplane.

There are several ways to reduce amount of time it takes to complete an aircraft. Some aircraft kit manufacturing offer quick built kits, these meet the 51% rule, but do have a great deal of sub assembly work already fabricated. The theory goes something like this: "If there are 5000 rivets to put in, the manufacturer does 4500, and leaves 500 for the builder to do. Once the builder puts in the 500, he will learn all he needs to know about installing the rivets."

This is a fine theory, but we here at BedeAmerica Aerosport, are taking a different approach. We believe by design we can reduce the assembly time significantly. The simpler the assembly can be, the easier it will be to complete. The fewer parts there are, the easier it will be to complete. The smaller the size of the aircraft, the easier and faster it can be built. The Nugget utilizes all these techniques by cleverly designing the basic fuselage structure into eight flat panels that simply snap together and fasten with just a few aircraft bolts. The primary fuselage structure can be assembled in mere hours - not days, weeks, or months.

By reducing the total number of parts on the aircraft to 110 items, it is obvious these can be assembled in one-tenth the time it would take to assemble a project of 1100 parts. Just think how much time is saved in the Nugget as compared to building an aircraft that may have the usual 3000-4000 parts.

The Nugget design also uses new modern manufacturing materials and techniques such as on the rudder and ailerons. These parts are cast in metal molds using self-skinning urethane foam. They come out of the mold ready for installation and painting. It has been said, "the Nugget design represents a quantum leap in simplifying an aircraft."

Exactly how long will it take to build your own BD17 Nugget? It's a little too early to make an accurate estimate...but it will be fast! BEDEAmerica Aerosport is establishing dealers around the country. Many dealers, will have "assembly assistance" facilities to provide the builder with all the space and tools he will require, also expert factory-trained personnel to be available full time to guide him through every step. At this stage, we are convinced that an individual will be able to complete his aircraft ready for flying in less than a week.
